ASL 1: Introduction to American Sign Language for Families

Join Teacher of the Deaf, Kristen Urban, for a fun and welcoming introduction to American Sign Language (ASL)!

This 4-week beginner course is designed for families and any others who want to learn basic everyday signs and creating a foundation of knowledge in ASL.

No prior experience is needed. Participants will learn through interactive activities, visual demonstrations, and simple conversations in a supportive community setting.

Topics Covered Include:

  • The ASL alphabet and fingerspelling

  • Greetings and introductions

  • Family members and relationships

  • Numbers, colors, and common everyday vocabulary

  • Simple sentence structure

  • Deaf culture awareness

  • Practice with beginner-level signing and receptive skills

All materials will be included in the course! Just bring yourselves!
